Does it get more British than a weekend full of blustery winds and constant downpours?
Whatever the weather, you can always count on a cosy spot somewhere to hide from the rain and indulge in endless amounts of tea and cake. Which is exactly what we found tucked just behind Broadway’s High Street at The Tea Set.
The fresh daffodils and colourful China soon brightened up a very grey day…
We started by selecting our tea of choice. Freshly brewed English Breakfast tea for my mum, and Peppermint for me. There were so many to choose from with the Strawberries and Cream flavour also sounding very tempting.
And then the main event! An impressive tiered display of neatly cut sandwiches, two enormous scones that were still warm, and some of the prettiest little home made cakes. And if that wasn’t enough, there was also a light side of raspberry mousse.
For our savoury starter, a trio of sandwiches – including ham and chutney, egg and cress, and salmon with cream cheese.
Shortly followed by a Cream Tea – the Cornish way! Strawberry jam first and then the thickest dollop of clotted cream.
And then my favourite part… where to start? From the slice of zesty lemon drizzle to the gooey chocolate brownie, it’s safe to say that my sweet tooth was very satisfied!
The tea room itself is also just as lovely. The traditional decor and vintage China fits in perfectly with the picturesque village of Broadway. Particularly if it’s your first time in the area, it would be the ideal way to get a taste of the English countryside. (You can also find their tea rooms in the Oxfordshire village of Chipping Norton).
We were kindly invited to try out the afternoon tea however we will definitely be returning to try out the ‘posh cheese on toast’ 😍 Thank you to the lovely staff at The Tea Set for a very indulgent afternoon.
